Jericho Road Inc. is a 501(c) 3 community based organization that is the vision of Dr. Elena Bascom, a survivor of domestic violence (DV). Due to her experiences as a child and as a victim of domestic violence, Dr. Bascom began outreach work to help other women who were in similar situations. Through this journey, Jericho Road Inc. was born.
The group operated simply as volunteers in north Brooklyn for several years as an unincorporated entity and an unregistered organization. They have conducted several community-based projects geared to meeting the needs of the people. However, the helping of family members, especially those who are victims of domestic violence, is now the organizationís immediate focus. MISSION
Jericho Road Inc. is dedicated to lend a helping hand to needy families and to strive to prevent the various forms of violence that are crippling our community.COMMUNITY LINKS
Many of our personnel reside in or connected to the surrounding areas where we serve. We make direct contact with our community through our monthly food distribution to the needy; annual coat and toy drives; college scholarships, and the organizing and sponsoring of our annual basketball tournament.COLLABORATIONS
Many services providers are not equipped to detect the signs of domestic and intimate partner violence. They do not know how to address these issues. We are educating our community about domestic violence. We provide contacts and other information to service providers, potential victims, current victims and perpetrators of violence of the appropriate agencies. As we embark on what we believe is a new approach to domestic violence awareness and prevention, we hope to joint/organize annual symposiums with other groups and organizations to confront this monster known as domestic violence.Collaborators Include:
